Racing

We offer racing programs for keelboats, dinghies and sailboards. Several options are available in what is the most popular activity at the club. Some races are run in conjunction with other clubs on the lake.

• Monday evenings: Ladies' keelboat racing
• Tuesday evenings: Keelboat racing under the PHRF handicap system
• Wednesday evenings: Dinghies and sailboards
• Thursday evenings: Small keelboat one-design racing ( Tanzer 22s, Mirage 24s, Sharks, C&C 27s ) and JAM racing.
• Weekends: Throughout the season BYC hosts several long-distance races, including two 50 mile races and one 100 mile race.

Regattas

BYC enjoys an international reputation for running high-quality regattas. Our members include qualified regatta organizers, race committee experts, judges and social conveners. Each year we host the National Capital Regatta, now in its 50th year. Last year more than 200 boats competed. We are also represented at many out of town events.

BYC Sailboard Open Regatta (no entry fees)

Location: Britannia Yacht Club (BYC), 2777 Cassels Street, Ottawa (www.byc.ca) 

Skippers’ meeting: 9:20 am (starting sequence and course will be explained)

First race (tentative): 10 amLast race (weather permitting): 2:30 pm

Fleet A: Sailboarders/racers (race twice around the course)

Fleet B: Participation sailboarders (race once around the course),  (B fleet will be provided a colored ribbon to fly at top of sail) 

Starts: Fleet A and B start on same starting sequence. 

About the site:Access to washrooms and showers available in the clubhouse.Free parking.Access to rig your sail: there is a grassy area (south) beside the clubhouse.Access to water/river: we have a floating deck to make it easy to launch (see webcam:  http://www.byc.ca/home/byc-webcam.html)
