Rally Fun Race
Mark your calendars! The 2010 Easter Seals Regatta will be setting sail on July 16-17. This is our 15th Regatta, so we will be doing it up right!
Yes, it is hard to believe that our modest event, started back in 1996 by a small group of BYC enthusiasts like Donny Tucker, has grown to host such an expanded program of activities with support today from both BYC and NSC and countless volunteers to benefit over 400 local Easter Seals families. Over the past 15 years, our Regatta has raised over $650,000 for Easter Seals, joining other clubs like RCYC in support of this very worthwhile cause. The monies raised at this single event here in Ottawa represents one fourth of the funding provided annually to the local Ottawa region families that depend on Easter Seals support.
Don’t miss out on the fun this year!Think about entering your boat into the Regatta’s Fuller Family Fleet Salute on Saturday morning to give a local family the thrill of sailing, and to help raise some funds!
Let’s make 2010 the year that the Easter Seals Regatta CIBC Cup returns home to BYC.Sign up for the afternoon fun rally and keep Carol Laidlaw at NSC from owning the cup for 3 years in a row! For those who are curious, here are the past CIBC Cup winners: Denny Foy (Lively Lady BYC - 2004); Richard Pessah (Plane Fun NSC - 2005), John Lydon (Dulcinea BYC – 2006); Al Malo (Aon Fior BYC – 2007); Carol Laidlaw (Mindemoya NSC - 2008 and 2009).
There are great non-sailing events too! Come out to the Friday night “Rock the Dock” auction; if last year is any indication, there are fantastic bargains that are not to be missed. We will be posting a list of the available items at the club, so fair warning, make time to shop! The Saturday evening Luau was beautiful last year and I really want to see everyone in their Polynesian finest for the dining and dancing. The Luau is a great event to bring together our whole sailing community.
Finally, you got to check out the “Bring on the Bay” Swim sponsored by Bushtukah. For the fourth year running, the regatta features a 3-km open water swim across beautiful Britannia Bay. Last year, 76 swimmers completed the distance and we expect double that for 2010! More information can be found at http://bringonthebay.com.
Event details will be available at the club, on the Easter Seals Regatta website at nsc.ca/easterseals, and from Karen Wright (Regatta Chair at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).
Hop aboard, and let’s have some fun!
